Forza Motorsport 4 May Top Gear Car Pack Overview

The May Top Gear car pack for Forza 4 is certainly one of the most entertaining car packs we’ve seen yet. It features a great variety of new cars but some of them definitely stand out.

2012 Hennessey Venom GT

The Venom GT, to put it simply, an absolute monster! Its 6.2 liter, twin turbocharged V8 delivers 1,200 horsepower to the rear wheels. That’s an astonishing number. But what’s even more astonishing is the fact that it only weighs 2,685 pounds!

The Venom’s weight enables it to deliver a 0-200 time ten seconds faster than that of the Bugatti Veyron! Now that’s something to brag about. It also has the best power to weight ratio of any production car ever made.

2012 Chrysler 300C SRT-8

The new Chrysler 300C SRT-8 definitely has all of the necessary aspects of a modern muscle car. The standout features include a 450 horsepower V8 under the hood and a whopping 465 pounds, feet of torque. It’s also capable of a sub 13 second quarter mile time.

While it may look like a family car, the new 300C SRT-8 is a true Hoonigan’s car. Once you turn the traction control off, it will spew smoke from the rear tires for days.

1990 Subaru Legacy RS

The Subaru Legacy RS is definitely a welcome addition to the Forza Motorsport 4 car list. Many touge and rally enthusiasts have wanted it for a long time. And I’m sure that this Legacy’s legacy will live on in Forza 4.

When the Legacy RS was released, it brought a new level of performance to Subaru showrooms. Its engine (the EJ20G) has been used in WRX models and produced around 200 horsepower.

1966 Lotus Cortina

The Lotus Cortina is a very interesting car indeed. In fact, it was one of the first cars that allowed owners to have fun on the track and still use the car every day.

With its light weight body, 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine and a zero to sixty time of under 10 seconds, the Lotus Cortina was definitely a revolutionary car for its time.

1977 AMC Pacer X

The Pacer X is definitely one of the oddball cars in this DLC pack. Sure it may only pack 100 horsepower but that’s not what this car is about.

To be honest I don’t see the Pacer X winning any races. However, I do think it would be an interesting choice for a bit of car soccer.

2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon

I can’t help but think that the addition of off-road vehicles like the Wrangler is a sign that Forza 4 may be getting off-road tracks. But that’s in the future.

Since the Wrangler wants to flip over every time you go near a corner at high speeds, it’s not very good for racing.

But, the Wrangler isn’t a bad choice for a game of tag. It’s also a great choice for the goalie position in car soccer and may give the Hummer a run for its money.

2011 Ford Transit SuperSport Van

The SuperSport Van is an interesting vehicle. Sure it might not be very fast with its stock engine. But swap in a Ford Racing V8 and you’ve got yourself a Super Sleeper Van!

It’s also an extremely fun vehicle to drift in. Trust us, just to try it, you’ll be amazed.

2012 Smart for Two

The 2012 Smart is definitely the smallest car that we’ve ever seen in forza 4’s car list. It’s also definitely not the most powerful car you’ll ever drive. At a mere 70 horsepower from a 3 cylinder engine the Smart is anything but powerful.

At this point you’re probably thinking “why is it in the game then?” Well my friends, you’ll be happy to know that we’ve found the perfect use for the Smart. It’s the penalty box for anyone that doesn’t behave during races!

1992 Mitsubishi Gallant VR-4

The Gallant VR-4 is the direct rival of the Subaru Legacy that we talked about earlier. And we’re sure that the two will be found in an eternal touge battle with each other.

Featuring a turbo charged 4 cylinder engine pumping out 237 horsepower, four wheel drive and four wheel steering, the Gallant VR-4 definitely holds a special place in JDM history.

DiRT Showdown First Impressions

Last night I downloaded the demo for Dirt Showdown and (considering the franchise’s history) my expectations were high.

Dirt Showdown differs from previous entries in the series because it’s more of an arcade game than a simulator. To be honest the notion of changing the DiRT formula from simulation to arcade had me a bit worried. But I was pleasantly surprised.

When you first start up the game you will be taken to the main menu. Mind you, it’s no ordinary “main menu”. The menu options are in bold 3D text and fall down from the sky into an off-road stadium. I was expecting something like this because Codemasters’ games have always had intuitive menus.

Another thing I noticed right off the bat was how colorful the interface was. It did a great job of drawing me into the experience with its attractive visuals and rock/metal tunes.

After choosing the career mode option on the main menu I was given the choice of a tour. After choosing my tour I then pick an event. Once my event was chosen, it was time to pick a car.

The first cars I was given access to in the game were very different than the cars in previous DiRT games. Gone are the rally cars and trophy trucks and in their place are “demolition derby” style hot rods and muscle cars. I was a bit disappointed by this but I always try to review games based on what they are, not what they could have been.

With that being said, the new vehicles in DiRT Showdown are perfect for the “Pick up and Play” style that Codemasters is going for.

Once I chose my car, I was ready to begin the first race. Something that caught my eye was the cool visual style. The colors are very bright and bold, body pieces of cars fly off on contact and sparks fly when you brush against a wall.

To sum it up, DiRT Showdown is definitely breaks away from the classic formula of the series. However, it takes the series in a new, fun filled direction. I’m quite excited to see how DiRT Showdown does when it hits store shelves.
